Sun and age spots are common occurrences with skin aging.  Although generally harmless, some may opt to remove them for cosmetic purposes.  Fortunately, with advances in cosmetic technology, removal is now possible.  In fact, our laser, the Quanta Q Plus C, is one of the most effective methods for removal.

Removal of sun/age spots works by targeting excess melanin in the skin.  The laser light breaks down the excess pigments, allowing the body to absorb it and eliminate it over time.  This results in a gradual fading of the sun/age spot, with virtually no damage to the surrounding tissue.

  • The pain associated with laser sun/age spot removal can be described as the feeling of a rubber band snapping on the skin. Very rarely do clients consider the process to be uncomfortable. However, with our cooling unit, the Zimmer Cryo 6, it can cool the skin before, during and after your laser treatment. The cooling unit will significantly reduce your discomfort, thus ensuring your experience is as comfortable as possible. For more sensitive clients, we carry a numbing cream which is available for purchase.

  • Simply put, during the laser treatment, light from the laser penetrates the pigment in the skin, heating the excess melanin to extremely high temperatures; thus, causing the excess melanin in the skin cells to explode into smaller particles. The body's natural defence mechanism sends out macrophages (scavenger cells) which then digest the smaller particles and expel them from the body through the lymphatic system. With the technology we offer, our Quanta Q-Plus C laser is capable of selectively heating the excess melanin without disrupting the surrounding tissue; thereby, significantly decreasing your risk of blistering and subsequently scarring.

  • The number of treatments will vary depending on a number of factors. This will be explained in further detail during your consultation.

  • The intervals between treatments are typically spaced apart every 2 months.

    *Due to the extremely vulnerable nature of sun/age spots to sun exposure and its high propensity to become hypo or hyper pigmented with sun exposure, we refrain from doing treatments during the summer months. The treatment area CANNOT be tanned whatsoever prior to the treatment.

  • Immediately post treatment some redness and swelling may occur. A brown “scab” may form, which will typically naturally fall off within 7 days. If any hypopigmentation (lightening) occurs, it is temporary.

  • Absolutely! Tanning is the only activity that MUST be avoided for at least 2 weeks following your treatment. Soaking the skin (i.e. bath, pool, hot tub, lake, etc.) should also be avoided 1 week following your procedure.

  • Yes! Unlike most other lasers, which only work on certain skin types, the Quanta Q Plus C, can safely and effectively treat all skin types!
